What's in a Name?

We have not always been known as Winterfield United Methodist Church. Our name evolved through the ages, just as our site has. The original name was rumored to have originated from the land worshipped upon. The site was the cattle owner's "winter field," and his "summer field" was further down the road. Therefore, when the church began to meet under the first brush arbor it was known as the Winterfield Methodist Episcopal Church - South. In 1939, around the time of the first full-time pastor, the church became known as Winterfield Methodist Church, and the people worshipped beneath this moniker for many years. The current name, Winterfield United Methodist Church, was the name we received in 1968, when the Methodist Episcopal Church and the United Evangelical Brethren merged to form the United Methodist Church.
